Honda reveals new aerokit for 2015 IndyCar series
Honda to use a new configurable aero kit for this year's Indy Car Series
Honda's performance arm HPD has just unveiled their latest aero kits for the 2015 IndyCar Series.
Developed by the company's racing arm in North America, Honda Performance Development (HPD), each kit is composed of nearly 200 individual pieces that can be fitted on the company's existing Honda-powered Dallara chassis.
According to Art. St. Cyr, President of HPD and Vice President of Auto Operations of American Honda, it took them literally thousands of hours of research, development and testing in order for it to be fabricated correctly. The kits were developed with computer-aided design (CAD) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and are tested in a full-scale wind tunnel to check for actual aerodynamic properties before being tested out on the open road.
HPD added that the new aero kits are configurable as well, allowing teams to set and tune the kit depending on the race track and prevailing conditions.
“We believe we have a superior aerodynamic and engine package. We're looking forward to the start of the 2015 season on the streets of St. Petersburg, and taking on the battle for the Manufacturers' Championship.” said Cyr.
Honda's indy car aero kits will make their public debut on March 16-17 at the Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham, Alabama. The 2015 IndyCar Series is scheduled to kick off on March 29 at the Firestone Grand Prix in St. Petersburg, Florida.
