Honda Performance Development will continue its commitment to customer LMP1 endurance sports-car racing by introducing the new turbocharged V6 engine followed by a range of bespoke energy recovery options in 2015 for the FIA World Endurance Championship. The new Honda HR22T V6 engine is based on the same design used in the 2.2 liter direct injection turbocharged V6 engine used in the IZOD IndyCar Series competition since 2012.
The revised rules package introduced for the WEC in 2014 gave HPD an opportunity to introduce its new powertrain system. It is tailor made to meet the needs of private teams competing their top-level endurance sports cars.
In addition to the new engine and energy recovery system, HPD and chassis technical partner Wirth Research are developing a coupe version of the ARX chassis series that will provide an integrated solution for the new V6 engine and ERS.
As an engine supplier to the IZOD IndyCar Series, Honda tallies 202 race wins in both CART and IZOD IndyCar Series competition since 1994. At present, HPD is involved in both the American Le Mans Series and the FIA World Endurance Championship.
HPD continues to offer race engine options for track applications that ranges from prototype sports cars to karting. It also showcases ‘fun-to-drive’ products for professional, amateur and entry-level racers.
