Round 1 of the 2007 Honda Media Challenge is set for Saturday, November 10, at the FTI Complex in Taguig City.
Departing from the circuit format of the past two seasons, the 2007 Honda Media Challenge will be designed as an Autokhana, combining the autocross and gymkhana motorsport disciplines. This format evens out the competition since emphasis will be on driver skill and vehicle handling, combining both speed and precision driving. The skills learned and practiced here, like smooth transitions, enhanced braking and skid correction, all have impact on improving the safety and skill of the participants' street driving. The challenge and excitement comes from the track layout with many twists and turns, which requires strong mental concentration.
Competing in the 2007 series are motoring journalists and other media personalities from print, television, radio and the web. Among the media organizations represented are: broadsheets — BusinessWorld, BusinessMirror, Manila Bulletin, Manila Standard Today, Philippine Star; magazines — Top Gear, C!, Gadgets, Motorcyle, Speed, Food; television — Auto Review, Motoring Today, Stoplight TV; radio — DZMM, DZRH, DWIZ, DZXL, JAM 88.3, NU 107, RX 93.1; websites — autoindustriya.com; kotse.com.
Six Honda Jazz VTEC 1500 manual transmission units have been equipped with roll cages, racing seat and five-point harness for use as official competition vehicles. The vehicles are fitted with Yokohama Tires, while the batteries are courtesy of Motolite "Trusted na mas pangmatagalan."
The official fuel for the 2007 season is the new Petron XCS Complete Combustion System, a special formulation customized for Philippine driving conditions. The first gasoline powered by premium organic enhancers, Petron XCS delivers smoother acceleration and optimized power by keeping your engine clean and maximizing fuel consumption.
Other sponsors include Honda Philippines, Inc. for the generator sets, Pagcor Sports, JVC Mobile Entertainment Systems, Art & Image Technology for the car stickers, and IgerTech for the timing device and scoring system.
The 2007 Honda Media Challenge competition rounds are scheduled for November 10, November 24, and December 08, at the FTI Complex in Taguig.
The Honda Media Challenge is a club event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and is organized by ADBM Resources. For more information about the event, call 9206944 or visit www.mediachallenge.info.
