Hamilton wins dramatic 2015 British Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton has clinched his fifth win in this year’s Formula One season as the Briton finished ahead of the pack in the dramatic 2015 British Grand Prix. Nico Rosberg finished in second while Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel completed the top three.

The drama took off right away as Williams’ Felipe Massa and Valterri Bottas both had an excellent start. Starting third on the grid, Massa made a spectacular move as he passed Rosberg and Hamilton to steal the lead. On the other hand, Bottas managed to squeeze his Williams car to second place. As a result, the feisty Williams duo took charge during the opening laps of the 2015 British Grand Prix.

Hamilton regained the lead after the first round of pit stops on lap 19. Both Massa and Bottas tried their best to regain their advantage, but Hamilton was determined to maintain his position.

Rosberg who was in fourth patiently waited for the right moment to strike. His assault began on lap 39 as the German overtakes Bottas to claim third position. Then, in lap 41, Rosberg overtakes Massa for the second spot.

After the successful assault, Rosberg closed on to his Mercedes teammate. However, Hamilton pitted on lap 43 for intermediate tires as the rain started to pour. Hamilton’s decision to change tires proved to be the right move as other drivers struggled to find grip on the wet Silverstone race track.

Vettel also pitted on lap 43 which catapulted the Ferrari driver to third place. As a review, Vettel ended the first lap of the race in ninth place. If it wasn’t because of the rain and the perfectly timed pit stop, Vettel would not be among the top three finishers.

Massa as well as Bottas wasn’t able to sustain their strong start as they finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Red Bull’s Danil Kvyat outshines his team mate as he ended the race in sixth place. He was followed by Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg and Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen.

Force India’s Sergio Perez finished in ninth while Fernando Alonso managed to score his first point of the year in tenth.

Jenson Button, Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado were caught up in a first lap collision which resulted to an early retirement. Other drivers who retired from the race due to technical issues were Carlos Sainz Jr., Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen while Felipe Nasr did not start due to gearbox problems.

After the 2015 British Grand Prix, Hamilton still leads the driver standings with 194 points. He’s followed by Rosberg with 177 points and Vettel with 135. In terms of constructor standings, Mercedes continues to dominate with 371 points followed by Ferrari with 211 and Williams with 151.
