Hamilton dominates the 2014 Malaysian Grand Prix

The 2014 Malaysian Grand Prix was all about Lewis Hamilton as he dominated the race with a staggering 17 seconds lead over his teammate, Nico Rosberg. Hamilton also managed to have the fastest lap time during the race, showing that he is a superb F1 driver when he is at his best. Coming in second was Hamilton’s teammate, Nico Rosberg, making the 2014 Malaysian Grand Prix a one-two podium finish for the Meredes AMG Petronas team. Rosberg managed to maintain his lead over the defending F1 World Champion, Sebastian Vettel, who finished the race in third.

Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso finished in fourth; Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg in fifth; McLaren’s Jenson Button in sixth; William’s Felipe Massa and Valterri Bottas in seventh and eight respectively; McLaren’s Kevin Magnussen in ninth; and Renault’s Daniil Kvyat rounds up the top ten finishers.

Hamilton’s dominant performance at the 2014 Malaysian Grand Prix marks his second win for the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team and it is also his 23^rd Formula One career victory. The Silver Arrows driver was delighted with his commanding race victory and felt happy as he finally managed to win in the Malaysian Grand Prix.

“I’m incredibly happy today. This is my first win in Malaysia after eight attempts and to do it for our Petronas family in their home country makes it even more special. It’s all down to the team. They have done a fantastic job and I have to say a huge thank you to everyone here at the track and back at our factories who have been pushing non-stop to get the car where it is,” said Hamilton.

With an 17 seconds advantage over his team mate Nico Rosberg, Hamilton claims that crossing the checkered flag was tough. "The race was tougher than it perhaps looked today and the conditions here always make it a great challenge. But I was able to look after the car, the tires and the fuel and still keep a bit of pace in hand which made my job that little bit easier," Hamilton commented.

The Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team’s one-two finish in Malaysia enabled them to overtake McLaren in the constructors’ championship. Now, Mercedes sits in first. Hamilton said the one-two podium finish is an important result for the team, but he is also aware that the team needs to maintain their focus as to anything can happen along the season.  “It’s great to see Mercedes leading the championship but we know that we have to make these early races pay. Anything can happen as we saw in Australia, so this is an important result for us. One-two finishes don’t happen very often and this is a real achievement for the team,” said Hamilton.

Hamilton offered his victory to the victims of the Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 and to his step mom, Linda who’s celebrating her 50^th birthday.
