The DMF Drift Team will once again campaign in the 2010 Formula Drift Asia Series supported by Goodyear Philippines. The lone Philippine contingent is set to compete at Formula Drift Singapore 2010 on April 24 and 25 to be held at the F1 Pit Building. The team headed by David M. Feliciano, holds the distinction of being the first and to-date only Filipino team to compete in an international Formula Drift competition.
"Goodyear is strongly committed to drifting which is the fastest growing motorsport in the country and in the ASEAN region. The excellent performance and professionalism that David and the team exhibited at the Formula Drift competitions last year is something we are all proud of. They performed remarkably in showcasing the Filipino talent and sportsmanship to the rest of the international field," said Gerry Alava, Goodyear Philippines Managing Director.
This time around, the team will head over to Singapore for the sporting calendar highlight that has attracted regional interest and talent. They will compete with over 45 drivers hailing from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong, Japan and New Zealand including Japanese Champion and Top Formula DRIFT USA Pro Ryuji Miki and New Zealand's most multi-talented driver, Daynom Templeman.
"I am very excited and am thrilled that Goodyear gave us the opportunity to once again compete at the Formula Drift Series. I and the rest of the team look forward to building on our previous experience and progressing even higher within the competition format," said David Feliciano.
Taming the "Great White"
At the Formula Drift Singapore leg, Feliciano will once again be armed with the "Great White", his Nissan Silvia PS13, now equipped with heavily modified engine. With insights gained from the FD events in 2009, Feliciano is set to battle over 45 competitive drivers from across the Asia-Pacific region. He compares the action-filled drifting spectacle to taming the beast.
"As the engines are much more powerful, it is similar to taming the beast where the car can be very strong and powerful but the driver must be in full control in order to bring the car to its peak performance," explains Feliciano.
Feliciano adds "The FD series made me realize that drifting is not about slipping and sliding, but about power and control. I learned that to compete at this level the choice of tires do matter. You need the right tires with responsive grip and handling to be able to take a wide drift angle using a force generated by 350 horsepower engines. Goodyear has the perfect winning tire in the Eagle F1 Asymmetric."
The Great White will be equipped with Goodyear's Eagle F1 Asymmetric, the multi-awarded ultra-high performance tire known for its 'no-limits' driving experience. The Eagle F1 Asymmetric was designed with a keen understanding of what the ultra-high performance segment needs for faster, more powerful and heavier vehicles requirements. The tires' cornering ability plays a vital role in drifting because of its Active CornerGrip technology which was developed with the objective of increasing the tire-to-road contact area by distributing a more even pressure across the width of the tires' tread patch thus resulting in better control especially in tight corners.
"Every high-performance tire performs differently depending on handling and road conditions. The Eagle F1 Asymmetric provides perfect handling and control on the track and allows me to push the limits with confidence," says Feliciano.
