Gumpert has mainly been known for building race cars for the street. At the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, Gumpert revealed the Apollo r, a purebred race car that can generate 872 PS.
Gumpert says with the increased demand, especially in Asia, they now promoted the company to offer pure race car in addition to the street legal Apollo and Apollo s models. "Many of our customers are driving their apollo on the racecourse, usually during track days or private events. With the apollo r, we allow ambitious drivers among them to participate in open GT events," says Ronald Gumpert, Manager of the manufacturing company.

Numerous modifications were made to be able to achieve a car that can generate 872PS from the 4.2 liter V8 engine. The vehicle is equipped with higher supercharging pressure, ignition and control time adjustments, optimization of the intake air ducts, and a special racing exhaust system. The vehicle’s engine and transmission cooling was also enhanced. Inside, it has a central digital dashboard that gives the driver essential information.
