Ford's electric Mustang Cobra Jet is an 8-second car
See just how quick the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 is on the quarter-mile

The guys over at Ford just did something incredible.
They were able to make an eight-second drag car that doesn't need a drop of fuel thanks to the wonders of electricity. Ford was able to build the ultimate electric drag car called the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400.
First revealed back in April, this pony car doesn't have a V8 under the hood and instead uses four electric motors. With it, this all-electric Mustang has a combined output of 1,400 horsepower, and a staggering 1,500 Nm of torque. That's equivalent to the combined power output of more than three Mustang GT V8 engines.

With that kind of power coursing through its wheels, the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 blazed through the quarter-mile in only 8.27 seconds at 270 km/h. Managing all that power was made possible thanks to AEM-EV and Ford Performance who jointly-developed the advanced data and control system. It features a unique control algorithm that's unique to the Cobra Jet 1400. Ford Performance also made fine-tuning enhancements to the chassis in order for the car to handle all of that horsepower and torque.

“It's been a great but challenging project for all of us at Ford Performance. The opportunities to learn with the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400, as well as the Mustang Mach-E 1400 we recently introduced, gives us great insight into what may be possible in high-performance all-electric vehicles for Ford going forward. We are very interested in continuing to work with NHRA to determine how electrification can be part of the sport and to show off the Cobra Jet 1400 at max power in due course as regulations develop,” said Mark Rushbrook, Global Director at Ford Performance Motorsports.

If you're still having doubts about EVs being 'slow', perhaps you need to see just how insanely quick the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 is on the drag strip.
