Ford lets you play in the dirt with Mustang Mach-E Rally

While electric powertrains have certainly found their way to a few rally cars like the Skoda concept RE-X1 Kreisel, you will not be able to put your grimy little paws on it because it will not be for sale. Fortunately, they are not the only brand working on this.

Ford will indulge your wild fantasies of driving pedal to the metal on dirt with the latest iteration and a rally-inspired version of their battery-electric compact crossover SUV. This is the Mustang Mach-E Rally.

Externally, it is different from the typical Mustang Mach-E in so many ways. First is the unique suspension that is raised by 20 mm, has specially tuned springs, MagneRide shocks, and 385-millimeter front brake rotors with red-painted Brembo®-branded calipers. Second are the 19-inch gloss white alloy wheels with 235/55 R19 Michelin CrossClimate2 tires. Third is the unique contrasting accents, including upper and lower body moldings, a unique front splitter, a black painted steel roof, built-in rally-inspired fog lights, and the two racing stripes. Finally, to protect the body and motors from debris are protective film on the door cladding and fender arches and protective shielding for the front and rear motors.

Internally are some really cool, new stuff. The battery is bigger – a 91-kWh lithium-ion unit with an estimated range of 250 miles or 402 kilometers. The charger is a DC unit that juices up the battery from 10% to 80% in 36.5 minutes. It has Ford’s first-ever RallySport Drive Mode designed for off-road driving and allows for added yaw for bigger slides, a linear throttle response for better control, and more aggressive damping for better handling in loose corners.

Other cabin amenities and safety features include Ford BlueCruise hands-free highway driving technology, Lane Change Assist, and In-Lane Repositioning, among others.

But the best part is the two motors that make 480 horsepower and 881 Nm of torque. That is more power and torque than some WRC (World Rally Championship) cars.
