First all-electric drift Toyota Prius debuts with 2015 D1 GP season
Organizers of the D1GP debut the all-electric drift Toyota Prius at the 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon
The organizers behind the D1 Grand Prix (D1GP) recently debuted the all-electric drift Prius at the 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon as the 15th season of D1GP officially kicked off last weekend.
Developed by the organizers themselves, it aims to show the harmony that can exist between motorsport racing and environmentalism.
The body of the Toyota Prius has been fitted with a wide body kit that consist of a new front bumper, a rear bumper integrated with a diffuser and aftermarket alloy wheels. The exterior is then covered in a green-white livery.
Under the hood, it is still powered by a 1.8-liter inline-four gasoline engine but has been converted to drive the rear wheels. Its stock 1.3kW battery has been replaced with a more powerful and durable lithium-ion iron phosphate (LiFePo) battery that produces a healthy 46 kW. The battery is then connected to 2 electric motors and onto a 6-speed sequential gearbox, giving the drifting Prius a total output system of 400 PS and 800 Nm of torque.
The D1GP organizers hopes that this project will launch a new trend in ecological, all-electric drift cars.
