Ferrari wants to dominate sportscar racing with 488 GT3 Evo
This race-bred Ferrari is the ultimate form of the 488

Racing has and always will be synonymous with Ferrari. The late founder of the Prancing Horse, Enzo Ferrari, first started out as a race car driver in his early years before eventually establishing the brand that became so well known the world over.
Now, the company that bears his name has revealed an all-new race car that's gunning straight for the GT championship titles around the world in 2020. Say hello to the 488 GT3 Evo, the most aerodynamic 488 race car the automaker has produced yet. Built and designed to cut through the wind effortlessly, as well as be more stable at high speeds, the 488 GT3 Evo benefits from a new front-end design in order to achieve its goal.
The engineers honed the 488 GT3 Evo's aerodynamics with over 18,000 hours of calculations and computational fluid dynamics (CFD), along with wind tunnel testing. The result is a highly-modified front-end which is comprised of a new front bumper, as well as a smaller opening under the headlights. With it, Ferrari claims this allows the car to generate more downforce without having to sacrifice aerodynamic balance.
Besides getting a new front-end, Ferrari was also busy making changes around the car. It has a longer wheelbase than the standard 488 GTE in order for it to have reduced tire wear. They also reduced its weight so that more ballast can be used to attain the minimum weight required and have a lower center of gravity. Finally, it has a lighter racing seat that was co-developed with Sabelt. The new seat follows the FIA's new safety regulations and is 2.4kg lighter thanks to the new belts and new buckle design.
No modifications were made to the engine of the 488 GT3 Evo. This means it still comes with a twin-turbo 3.8- liter V8 that may produce 670 PS and 760 Nm of torque. Ferrari did mention, however, that it has a new engine management system that they say improves engine reliability, and allow for smoother and a more precise torque delivery.
Ferrari is now accepting orders from teams and privateers who want to race the 488 GT3 Evo. Price is yet to be listed, but we're certain it's a lot of millions in Pesos.
