Ferrari's new GT3 race car is almost ready
Ferrari 296 GT3 has completed its Fiorano shakedown test

Barely a month after giving us a preview of its next-generation GT3 race car, Scuderia Ferrari has now finished the initial shakedown laps of the 296 GT3 on their Fiorano race track.
Ferrari teamed up with French motorsport organization Oreca to build the new 296 GT3, which will be the successor to the highly-successful 488 GT3 race car.

The new Prancing Horse race car is based on the 296 GTB and uses its 654 PS 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. However, based on the GT3 technical regulations, the 296 GT3 will run without the road car's hybrid system and will have its engine power restricted between 500 to 600 PS.
Factory drivers Alessandro Pier Guidi and Andrea Bertolini took turns behind the wheel of the 296 GT3 in Ferrari's very own test track, kicking off an intensive testing program for the new Prancing Horse race car to prepare it for its racing debut in 2023.

“Today marks the occasion of GT racing becoming part of our future and it’s a special moment. We chose to carry out the first tests in Fiorano because it’s our home and to allow the people who worked on the project to share a very special emotion,” said Stefano Coletta, head of Ferrari’s GT division.
The 296 GT3 is not the only Ferrari sportscar making its debut in 2023, as the Ferrari Le Mans Hypercar will also be racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship next year. The hypercar, however, is being developed by AF Corse, and will reportedly have its shakedown in Fiorano by June.
