Ferrari replaces F1 boss Maurizio Arrivabene after blunderous 2018 season

Ferrari has just announced that Formula 1 team principal Maurizio Arrivabene will be leaving the team, effective immediately. The decision was said to be made by the company’s top management following a lengthy discussion regarding Maurizio’s ‘long term personal interests as well as those with the team itself’. He will be replaced by former technical boss Mattia Binotto as Scuderia Ferrari’s new team principal. 

Having joined Scuderia Ferrari in 2014, Maurizio Arrivabene had been with team for four years already. During his time as team principal however, he was unable to secure any world championship’s for Ferrari be it a driver or a constructor’s title. 

That said, Ferrari has not won a driver’s title since Kimi Raikkonen’s title in 2007. Meanwhile, they won their last constructor’s title back in 2008. But since then, Ferrari has continued on working to recapture the magic and success that made them champions in the past.

During the 2018 season, it seemed like Ferrari’s year especially during the first few races. Sebastian Vettel managed to win a number of races and took the lead in championship points. Unfortunately, management errors were said to be one of the key reasons as to why Ferrari failed to secure the 2018 title and were unable beat Mercedes-AMG.

Under the helm of Arrivabene, Ferrari was able to win 14 races, secure 71 podiums finishes, and 12 pole positions in total. Ferrari still thanks him for this nonetheless, and wishes him the best in future endeavours.

With Binotto now in charge along with the entry of Charles Leclerc for 2019, we can just hope that Ferrari manages to bring back the glory of what once was this year.
