Chevrolet collected two more victories in Budapest and improved the tally to an impressive seven wins out of the eight races held so far. Official figures were of 75,000 over the weekend, 60,000 of them on Sunday. Not even the rain spoiled the party, as the Hungarian fans stoically remained sitting and waiting for the second race to resume after the break for a torrential shower.
BMW's Javier Villa posted the fastest lap of the 1st qualifying round, Robert Dahlgren came in second followed by Muller in 3rd, Tarquini in 4th and Michelisz in 5th. Alain Menu settled the pole position in Qualifying round 2 by becoming the first WTCC driver to break the 1:57 wall at the Hungaroring with a blistering time of 1:56.546 . He was followed by Javier Villa in 2nd and Yvan Muller in 3rd.
For the first race, Alain Menu won with his RML Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T, followed by Norbert Michelisz Zengõ-Dension Team in second and Javier Villa Garcà of the Scuderia Proteam in third for his first WTCC podium in his young career. Yvan Muller won the second race his first of the season for the 2010 champion, followed by Robert Huff, which he also won fourth place at race 1, 3 place goes to Gabriele Tarquinita with his SEAT Leon 2.0 TDI.
Robert Dahlgren was probably the day's most disappointed man. For the whole weekend his Volvo C30 had proved to be competitive on this track. Dahlgren had high expectations for the races, but he crashed at the beginning of the first one and then received a penalty in the second for hitting Oriola. This wasted a great opportunity for the Swedish team of achieving their best result ever in WTCC.
The championship will resume at Brno, Czech Republic, on June 19th for rounds 9 and 10.
