BTCC team enters Subaru Levorg for 2016
Subaru enters the British Touring Car Championship fray in 2016 after signing three-year deal with reigning champion BMR

Following in the footsteps of Honda and Toyota, another Japanese manufacturer wants in on the wheel-to-wheel action of the BTCC. For the first time in its company's history, Subaru will be entering the British Touring Car Championship for 2016. Paired together with Team BMR, the three year contract includes the fielding of two Subaru Levorg Sport Tourers and will be driven by Jason Plato and Colin Turkington for the 2016 season.
"We are very excited to have teamed up with BMR from the 2016 championship – the first time a Subaru has competed in BTCC," says Paul Tunnicliffe, the boss of Subaru UK and Ireland.
Unlike most Subarus for competition, the BTC-Spec Levorg will run the season with two wheel drive. Tunncliffe explains, "Although the Levorg features Subaru's famed all-wheel drive system, the car can be easily developed to compete with rear-wheel drive in order to comply with the BTCC regulations. We can’t wait to see how it goes against very established competition.”
With the Levorg, wagons also make a comeback in the series and follows in the footsteps of the Honda Civic Tourer and the iconic Volvo 850.
Plato and Turkington, both with two BTCC championships to their name, secured the teams’ championship last season for Team BMR with 10 wins in total for their Volkswagen CCs.
Team BMR is based in Buntingford, Hertfordshire and has been competing in the British Touring Car Championship since 2013.
