BMW Vision GT ready to take on Gran Turismo 6

To mark the game’s 15^th anniversary last year, Kazunori Yamauchi, Gran Turismo creator and president of Polyphony Digital Inc., invited automobile manufacturers to contribute to the successful game series. With this, BMW revealed the Vision Gran Turismo virtual race car to take on the tracks of Gran Turismo 6.

The Vision Gran Turismo virtual race car takes its design cues from the tradition of the successful BMW touring cars of the 1970s. The BMW design team geared towards creating a road racer for the modern era.

The virtual race car is incorporated with crisp proportions and dynamic silhouette. BMW designers made use of carbon fiber materials to lower the vehicle’s total weight.  The front and rear spoilers ensure optimum down-force, while the air conduction elements reduce drag.

The paint finish of the Vision Gran Turismo sports the BMW M colors that mirrors the automaker’s success in motorsports.

“The BMW Vision GT is pure BMW sportiness and dynamics. It’s a precise driving machine engineered and designed to race and win,” said Karim Habib, Head of Design BMW Automobiles.

The virtual race car weighs 1,180 kg that includes a 50:50 axle load distribution.

The BMW Vision Gran Turismo is powered by a virtual 3-liter six-cylinder inline engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology developed by BMW M GmbH. It delivers a maximum power of 557 PS with 680 Nm of torque and mated to a sequential six-speed transmission.

The BMW Vision Gran Turismo will be integrated into the new Gran Turismo 6 game through online update.

Aside from BMW, design teams from Alfa Romeo, Alpine, Aston Martin, Audi, Bertone, GM Design, Honda, Infiniti, Italdesign Giugiaro, Jordan, Mercedes-Benz,  Nike, Nissan, Peugeot, SRT (Chrysler), Volkswagen and Zagato are each delivering a concept for the game.
