Audi Sport wins epic 2015 WEC opening race
Audi's Marcel Fassler, Benoit Treluyer and Andre Lotterer won the 6 Hours of Silverstone

Audi has claimed the opening race of the 2015 World Endurance Championship as Marcel Fässler, Benoit Tréluyer and Andre Lotterer won the 6 Hours of Silverstone.
The No. 7 Audi R18 e-tron quattro of Fässler, Tréluyer and Lotterer won by 4.6 seconds ahead of the No. 18 Porsche 919 Hybrid of Romain Dumas, Marc Lieb and Neel Jani.
Coming in at third is the No. 1 Toyota TS 040-Hybrid of Anthony Davidson, Sébastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima who finished behind the race leader by 10.2 seconds.
The No. 7 Audi R18 e-tron quattro took the lead from the No. 1 Toyota TS 040-Hybrid during lap 96 with Lotterer behind the wheel. With just 60 minutes remaining in the race, Lotterer pitted and handed the car to Fässler for the final part of the race.

However, the No. 7 Audi R18 e-tron quattro incurred a late stop-go penalty which resulted into reducing the team's commanding lead of 72 seconds to just 11 with 15 minutes left on the race. Despite the pressure, Fässler was able to hold the lead.
Finishing at fourth is the No. 2 Toyota TS 040-Hybrid of Alexander Wurz, Stéphane Sarrazin and Mike Conway. The No. 8 Audi R18 e-tron quattro of Lucas Di Grassi, Loïc Duval and Oliver Jarvis finished fifth while the No. 4 CLM P1/01 AER of Simon Trummer, Vitantonio Liuzzi and Christian Klien ended the race in sixth.
On the other hand, the No. 17 Porsche of Mark Webber, Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley led the race for the first 80 minutes but was forced to retire due to a drive train issue.
