Audi unveils the 2015 R18 e-tron quattro

Audi Motorsport has just revealed the 2015 R18 e-tron quattro which will take part in this year's FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). An array of improvements were done to the new R18 e-tron quattro which includes an updated exterior and a more powerful yet efficient hybrid powertrain.

Immediately seen up front is the redone front end which improves airflow according to Audi. It was made possible by placing larger air inlets in front of the wheel arches which also led to the redesigning of the headlights.

Further aerodynamic improvements done to the 2015 race car include a new front wing, new radiator configurations and a new engine cover that seals better according to the automaker.

The monocoque chassis has been carried over but the automaker did collaborate with tire maker Michelin to make the necessary upgrades. Audi has also stated that they will be preparing two body versions of the R18 e-tron quattro that will suit the different tracks of this year's season.

The electric motor now cranks out more than 272 PS while output of the 4.0-liter TDI V6 unit now tops at 558 PS. Audi added that the car still weighs 870 kg but now consumes 2.5% less diesel per lap as they were able to refine the V6 engine.
