Ralph Boschung became the third youngest winner in the ADAC Formula Masters at the age of 15. The young Swiss rookie reached the feat during the championship’s penultimate round of 2013 at the Slovakia Ring on Sunday.
Boschung had been consistent with his driving. It allowed him to finish 3rd in the opening race, and fought for victory in the second race. He had his opportunity to be 1st on Sunday evening.
At the start, he was able to go up three places from the 5th position only to drop to 4th at Turn 1. His persistence brought him to 2nd place but was held back from advancing due to a long safety car period. The position remained unchanged until they crossed the checkered flag. However, first-placer Alessio Picariello slowed abruptly after crossing the line forcing Boschung to make a sudden avoiding action. With that incident, Picariello was given a 30-second time penalty, promoting Ralph Boschung to 1st place.
“Everything has worked well since the start of the weekend when we were fastest in the practice sessions, and qualified second and third for two of the races. My team and I have worked hard to make the car competitive for this weekend having come close to winning a couple of times already this season. To have won a race aged 15 is a dream for me, so I need to thank everyone at KUG Motorsport for their support,” said the 15-year-old Swiss racer.
He will remain with the ADAC Formula Masters next season because of his age. He will also have a trial behind the wheel of an F3 single-seater in Spain and Portugal on October.
With the developments and trainings they have, how much more of these young drivers will we see in the future?
