Acura NSX takes class win in Pikes Peak 2016
Acura NSX wins in its motorsport debut, EV Concept takes third overall

Earlier this month, Acura announced that they will be racing three, all-new NSX in the 2016 Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in different categories. Last Sunday, the 2017 NSX topped the Time Attack 2 (TA2) class on its competition debut after clocking in at 10:28.820 around the 20 kilometer course.

The car entered for the Time Attack 2 category is close to factory specification with added safety equipment such as a rollcage and fire extinguisher. Taking the NSX to its maiden win was Nick Robinson, North American R&D team member. Robinson was also the engineer in charge of the NSX's performance and dynamics. He was also last year's winner for the PP250 class. His brother, James Robinson, drove the TA1 NSX this year. Both cars driven by the brothers ran on the NSX's stock powertrain, The 3.5 liter i-VTEC biturbo V6 engine with two electric motors plus a “Twin Motor Unit” to provide drive to the front wheels. With the engine and electric motors, combined output is rated at 581 PS and can reach a top speed of 307 kilometers per hour.

The third car entered by Acura was the 4-Motor EV Concept, driven by Tetsuya Yamano. Yamano finished second in the Electric Modified class in the EV concept, posting a time of 9:06.015. His time also placed him third fastest overall in this year's Pikes Peak hillclimb. That car followed up on least year's CR-Z EV racing prototype and adapts four electric motors in Acura's halo car. According to Acura, the EV Concept packs three times more power than last year's CR-Z.
"I'm incredibly happy to have won the Production Class with the new NSX! The hard work the entire development team has put into the NSX over the past few years really paid off." said Nick Robinson.
