A Ford Mustang has conquered Bathurst 1000
Scott Mclaughlin, Alex Permat win 2019 Bathurst 1000 in a Ford Mustang GT

The Bathurst 1000 may not be as popular compared to 24 Hours of Le Mans or the 24 Hours of Spa, but it is one of the biggest motorsport events in Australia.
Taking place at the Mount Panorama Circuit, it is one of the longest-running race in the land down under featuring Australian touring cars. For years, the event has been dominated by either the Holden Commodore or the Ford Falcon. This year, however, there's a new winner, and it's the Ford Mustang.
Driven by Scott Mclaughlin and Alex Permat, the duo were able to bring their Ford Mustang GT to the finish ahead of the pack after the 161-lap race. It wasn't an easy win for Mclaughlin and Permat though. There were numerous incidents that happened throughout the race. The most controversial incident being fellow Ford teammate Fabian Coulthard supposedly slowing down during the safety car period and holding up the rest of the field.

Apart from the Ford Mustang making clinching its first victory at the Bathurst 1000, Scott Mclaughlin also becomes the first New Zealander to win Bathurst in 15 years. However, officials say the result will remain provisional until a further hearing takes place. For now, he extends his leads over the nearest rival by 622 points.
Finishing in second place was Shane van Gisbergen and Garth Tander of Triple Eight Race Engineering driving a Holden Commodore ZB. Rounding up the top three are James Courtney and Jack Perkins in another Holden Commodore ZB.
So, whoever said Mustangs can't turn must not have been watching this year's Bathurst 1000.
