99X Electric is Porsche's most powerful Formula E car
Porsche 99X Electric to have its racing debut at 2023 Mexico E-Prix

Today's not Thursday, but we're definitely feeling major throwback vibes with Porsche's newest all-electric race car.
The German manufacturer has revealed its third-generation Formula E car called the 99X Electric ahead of its official racing debut in the 2023 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

With the new era of Formula E cars set to become faster, lighter, and more technologically advanced than ever, the 99X Electric somehow exhibits some likeness to the V10-powered Formula One cars of the 90s in its squared-off front wing design, while the rear looks like a fighter jet with its two vertical fins.

Porsche Motorsport made in-house development of the 99X Electric's powertrain, which produces a maximum of 350 kW on the rear axle as per Formula E regulations. However, the new front powertrain adds 250 kW of power, resulting in a maximum output of 600 kW (805 PS) when fully unleashed, doubling the capability of the outgoing Gen2 Formula E race cars.

In addition to Formula E's net zero commitment, the battery cells of the 99X Electric are made from sustainably sourced materials and can be reused or recycled after every race season. That also applies to the car's carbon fiber bodywork, which Porsche states was made from retired Gen2 race cars. According to the manufacturer, these measures can reduce the carbon footprint of production by more than 10%.
Meanwhile, the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E team will field drivers Antonio Felix da Costa and Pascal Wehrlein for the 2023 season. Next year will be Porsche's fourth season in the all-electric racing series where the team will face Maserati, who will be returning to single-seater racing after 60 years.
