2023 Formula One season will have six sprint races
Record-breaking 24-race F1 season to add three more sprint races in the calendar

Formula One simply can't get enough of racing. With the 2023 season already set to have a record-breaking 24-race calendar, the World Motor Sport Council just doubled the amount of its Sprint races.
For those who may not be familiar with the F1 Sprint, it's an additional short race added to the usual weekend format. The qualifying session is shifted to Friday and determines the grid positions for the Saturday Sprint race. Afterward, the finishing order in the Sprint race then sets the grid for the main Sunday race.
Sprint races were introduced in 2021 as an additional 100 km race for fans to enjoy. And from the usual three, the 2023 season will now have six Sprint races.
So far, Formula One is yet to announce which venues will hold the Saturday sprint races. Last year, Silverstone, Monza, and Interlagos hosted the Sprint events. While this year, it's Imola, Red Bull Ring, and again Interlagos. Based on these, it looks like Formula One may again select its traditional venues to hold the Sprint races next year, with the possible exemption of Monaco.
“I am pleased that we can confirm six Sprints will be part of the Championship from 2023 onwards, building on the success of the new format introduced for the first time in 2021. The Sprint provides action across three days with the drivers all fighting for something right from the start on Friday through to the main event on Sunday, adding more drama and excitement to the weekend” said Stefano Domenicali, Formula 1 president and CEO.
Which tracks in the 24-race calendar do you think will be perfect for the Formula One sprint race? Let us know in the comments.
