2022 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 revealed with full carbon body

Apparently, it's not just Ferrari that's debuting a new racecar for the 2023 GT3 customer racing season. Over at Sant'Agata, Lamborghini has taken the wraps off the new Huracan GT3 EVO2. This is the third iteration of the track-only supercar since 2014, and the first new update since 2018.

Lamborghini used the Huracan STO as the basis for the new GT3 racecar, which in itself is a road-going version of the Super Trofeo. Because of this, the GT3 EVO2 shares a lot of the design elements present on the STO, including its bodywork that's made entirely out of carbon fiber.

The GT3 EVO2 fully complies with FIA's new 2022 technical regulations, and features revised aerodynamics. Designed in Lamborghini's Centro Stile, the GT3 EVO2's new front splitter, rear diffuser, and underbody provide greater downforce than the outgoing GT3 EVO. Aside from that, the rear wing and fins were taken from the STO road car.

In addition, the GT3 EVO2 has a new engine intake system. Previous versions of the Huracan GT3 used to funnel air to the engine via the side intakes. But now, there's a hexagonal roof scoop adapted from the STO that acts as a snorkel to channel airflow directly into the engine's 10 electronically actuated throttle bodies. Lamborghini says this results in greater responsiveness and better car balance.

Engine-wise, the GT3 EVO2 has the 5.2-liter V10 unit of the Super Trofeo Omologata. The road-going version has 640 PS, but per GT3 rules, the Balance of Performance (BoP) limits the GT3 racecar's output from 500 to 600 PS.

“The new Huracán GT3 EVO2 is not simply an evolution of the current car. It’s a new project that reinforces the technological transfer between Lamborghini’s motorsport division and the company and inherits two difficult tasks: to prove as successful as the previous generations of Huracán GT3, which have won more than 40 international titles in six seasons, and to match its commercial success by helping to reach the target of 500 Huracán racing cars since 2015,” said Giorgio Sanna, Lamborghini's Head of Motorsport.

Lamborghini says deliveries of the Huracan GT3 EVO2 will commence in the second half of 2022, with its official racing debut to happen at the 2023 Daytona 24.
