2020 F1 season delayed again as Canadian Grand Prix postponed
Supposed 2020 season opener of Formula 1 at Canadian Grand Prix postponed to later date

The 2020 season Formula 1 has not been off to a good start. Quite frankly, it hasn’t even begun as no race has been held. The first race of the season, the Australian Grand Prix, was canceled at the last minute due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Due to the same reason, subsequent races around the world have also been either canceled or postponed to a later date.
Now, if you have been waiting to see a live Formula 1 race back on TV in the next few months, we got some bad news for you. We will have to wait a little bit longer before racing begins. Organizers of the Canadian Grand Prix announced that the Montreal race, scheduled for June 12 to 14, has also been postponed. For reference, the Canadian Grand Prix was supposed to be the first race of the 2020 Formula 1 calendar. This also marks the ninth race of the season to be postponed/canceled due to the disease.
“I am proud to see how such wonderful initiatives and technical advancements stemming from Formula 1 are being applied in a time of crisis. At the moment it is crucial that all of our energies be put together to overcome COVID-19. We will welcome you with open arms to Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve as soon as it is safe to do so,” said Francois Dumontier, president and CEO Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix
Though the Canadian Grand Prix will take place in June, the organizers are not taking any chances. It is still uncertain when the whole pandemic will blow over as the number of cases globally continues to rise daily. As a result of the postponement, this would mean the first race of the season (assuming it’s not canceled or postponed) would be the French Grand Prix on June 26. The next race after that is the Austrian Grand Prix on July 5.
With numerous uncertainties and races being postponed left and right, it begs the question whether organizers should just cancel the entire 2020 Formula season completely. What do you guys think?
