2020 24 Hours of Le Mans postponed to September
Organizers of 24 Hours of Le Mans reschedules annual endurance race to September due to coronavirus

While June is still three months away, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and the organizers of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) aren’t taking any chances amid the ongoing pandemic. Recently, the FIA and the organizers have postponed the 88th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Originally set for June 13, 2020, the race is now scheduled to take place on September 19 due to the continuing spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic throughout Europe.
“Restrictions are currently in force in France and other countries around the world to curb the spread of coronavirus. Consequently, race organizer the Automobile Club de l'Ouest has decided, in conjunction with the Féderation Internationale Automobile (FIA) and the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC), to postpone the 24 Hours of Le Mans originally set for 13-14 June 2020,” according to a statement.
It’s not surprising to see the 24 Hours of Le Mans being postponed to a later date given the circumstances. Numerous motorsport events all over the world, including Formula 1, have already postponed or even canceled scheduled races and events for the upcoming months due to the coronavirus. However, the annual endurance race is the first event as late as June to be pushed back due to the global health crisis.
For those that think June is still too far away to be canceling events; remember, we still don’t know when this pandemic will end. As a result, the organizers of Le Mans are being cautious in order to protect fans and competitors alike.
Due to the 24 Hours of Le Mans being postponed, the organizers are also revising the FIA WEC, European Le Mans Series, Michelin Le Mans Cup, and Ligier European Series calendars for 2020.
