In previous years, China has experienced devastating storms and floods, causing tens of thousands of people to evacuate their homes and stay in temporary shelters. This year turns out to be no exception.
Some areas around Huairou, near Beijing suffered from floods. Unfortunately, some of the affected areas were supposed to be the stage for the upcoming rally. Due to this, the Federation of Automobile and Motorcycle Sports of Chine (CAMF) suffered heavy damage and was forced to cancel Round 10 of the 2016 FIA World Rally Championship.
Representatives of the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and World Rally Championship (WRC) Promoter however wanted to continue on with the event and immediately made a last minute visit. However, upon seeing the damaged environment, it was deem unsafe for the competitors as well as the organizers of the event.
CAMF and Le Sports said that special stages to be used for the rally suffered heavily that it will need a major repair work. And even if they work on it immediately, it would not be finished by the time the rally was supposed to start.
Thus, the decision that the FIA World Rally Championship consisting of 13 rounds will not be resumed for this year.
