The FIA World Motor Sport Council has approved a 21-race calendar for the 2016 Formula One (F1) season, including the inaugural race in Baku, Azerbaijan on July 17.

The 2016 F1 season will kick off on April 3 in Australia and end in Abu Dhabi on November 27. Aside from the addition of a new race in Baku, fans would witness the return of the German Grand Prix which was dropped this year due to financial issues.

On the other hand, the British Grand Prix will be held on June 26 while the Malaysian GP will be moved from March to September which is a week after the Singapore GP.

Regulation changes

The 2016 F1 season will also have a number of regulation changes which include the simplification of engine penalties wherein drivers will be demoted to the rear of the grid if they break the rules restricting power-unit usage. In addition, FIA says manufacturers will be allowed to use five power units rather than four.
