2013 Race of Champions in Bangkok postponed due to political unrest

The mass demonstrations and political situation in Bangkok, Thailand has taken its toll on the 2013 Race of Champions event. The Sports Authority of Thailand together with the event organizers have decided to cancel the event scheduled for December 14 to 15 at the Rajamangala National Stadium.

Protesters occupied the stadium last week where tens of thousands of people gathered at the venue and stayed for a week before bowing to government pressure to leave by December 1^st. The protests have also forced Grand Prix Group, organizers of the Auto Import Expo which was supposed to run from November 25 to December 1 as protesters decided to occupy the Government Complex Building on Chaengwattana Road, where the event was supposed to be held.

"Our thoughts are with the Thai people during this difficult period and we wish that a peaceful solution will soon be found. The Race of Champions has been held all over the world for 25 consecutive years and we are currently looking at options of repeating the success of last year’s event in Bangkok on another date," said a press release issued by the Race of Champions.

Reliable sources in Bangkok have revealed to us that organizers are looking to reschedule the event to February of 2014.
