2013 Malaysian GP to offer more than just F1 as event celebrates 15 years

The 2013 Formula 1 Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix will be offering much than F1 racing as the event celebrates its 15^th anniversary. Legendary rock band Guns N’ Roses will be performing right after the race on March 24 at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC). Organizers of the Malaysian Grand Prix have also arranged special off-track activities like the Petronas X-Track for motorsports fans.

The Guns N’ Roses after-race concert will be opened to all Grandstand ticket holders. However, Hillstand ticket holders will be able to upgrade their passes to watch the performance, which will be held at the SIC Helipad Area.

At the circuit, a Pit Lane Walk session will be available for Grandstand ticket holders from 6:15pm where you can see teams work on the cars after the Friday Practice sessions. Autograph sessions with the drivers meanwhile will be held on Sunday 12 noon, but SIC officials are advising fans to go early as they expect the lines to start as early as 7am in the morning.

The Petronas X-Track is an interactive race experience for fans as they will be given a chance to experience taxi rides aboard rally cars through a dirt track or go sideways on an a car drifting at high speeds; all driven by Malaysian professional race drivers. For those who want to experience the action themselves, the karting track and ATV off-road track is open as well. The X-Track experience is free for all ticket holders on a first come, first served basis. SIC officials also revealed that they will be putting up special race simulators for people to get a virtual feel of driving on the circuit.

To promote the new ‘Shop, Party, Race’ campaign to highlight the event, organizers are introducing a special ‘One Ticket Unlimited’ (1TU) package, which provides fans discounts and privileges aside from their race pass. These include: discounts on exclusive 15^th anniversary merchandise, shopping at partner retailers, hotels, and attractions; food and beverage vouchers; and special access to parties during the race weekend as well.

The Malaysian GP was first held in 1999 attracting fans from all over the world. Organizers revealed than nearly 120,000 fans attended last year’s race and they are hoping to increase the number for this year, especially from Filipino fans, who are car enthusiasts and motorsport followers.

Slated on March 22 to 24, the 2013 Formula 1 Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix tickets start as low as Php900 for Uncovered Hillstand seats. Grandstand tickets range from Php6,200 to Php24,550. Local ticketing agent Red Rock Travel is offering travel packages to the race.
