February 19 marked the Grand Opening of the 2006 PLDT myDSL Autocross Series at the Seaside Boulevard, Bay City in Pasay - as the tracks were officially opened by Mr. Bits Tolosa of Petron Lubes, Mr. Danny Santiago of Shago Racing and Mr. Mike Chang of Federal Tires. This is the second year of Shago Racing - in bringing the competitors to a place where racing spirit is accessible, fun, competitive and cheap. Posting the lowest entry fee of P500, novices, groups of privateer and a number of car clubs packed out the registration beginning 9am.
The First and only Identical Track in the country - laid out with a 200-meter stretch for maximum acceleration and 300-meter obstacles designed in novelty by SHAGO RACING - amassed a total of 156 entries from the 88 drivers, only half the number of its recorded competitors who participated in last year's series. The event was once again presented by PLDTmyDSL, Red Horse Beer, Federal Tires, Petron Ultron, ROTA Wheels, Outlast Battery, Nodalo's Exhaust System, Bigshot Billiards, Met Tathione L-Glutathione, and AutoIndustriya.com.
The reigning PLDTmyDSL Autocross Champion, twenty-year-old Uly Maninding, vied over the 2005 2nd Place Overall Dr. Peewee Mendiola for the best time, finally posting 35.66 seconds by the end of the race. Ranked 2nd Overall, best time of the day, Dr. Peewee Mendiola with the time of 36.88 seconds and came 3rd was Douglas, youngest of the Manindings with the time of 38.87 seconds. For our Car Club top entries, Caloy Cruz positioned first in All Toyota Class while JR Costales for the All Mitsubishi Class and Ceasar Martinez for the Volkswagen Class.
The next legs of the series will be on Apr 2, May 6, July 16, Sept 10, Oct 29 held at Bradco Avenue cor. Macapagal Boulevard, Bay City, in front of Pricemart Shopping Centre.
