The Asian Formula Three Series, just one step away from Formula One, steps up a gear in 2003 by becoming a feature of the Asian Festival of Speed Race Meeting. The result is a "dream" event featuring all the International Asian Series on one bill, producing a race meeting of significant importance. Aside from Formula Three, the Asian Touring Car Series, Asian Formula BMW and the Asian Porsche Carrera Cup will all take part in A.F.O.S. Each series will have two races over the event.
The weight of the BMW and Porsche publicity machines, together with the promotional efforts of the Asian Formula Three Corporation and the Asian Touring Car Organisers, will result in a sporting event of great importance in each Country visited, producing fantastic media mileage and corporate entertainment opportunities.
The provisional dates for 2003 are as follows:
March 8/9: Round 1&2 Subic , Philippines
April 19/20: Round 3&4 Johor, Malaysia
June 7/8: Round 5&6 Sepang, Malaysia
July 19/20 : Round 7&8 Bira, Thailand
August 23/24 : Round 9&10 Everlands, Korea
Sept 27/28 : Round 11&12 Autopolis, Japan
October 25/26 : Round 13&14 Beijing, China
Note: Round 1 & 2 is a stand-a-lone Formula Three event.
Asian Touring Cars
The Asian Touring Car Series is the regions premier championship for Touring Cars, run to FIA Super Production rules for 2.0 liter and 1.6 liter cars. The close, panel bashing racing, is a crowd favourite with Peugeot, Honda and Ford battling for Championship honours.
Asian Formula BMW
BMW have recognised the need for an International feeder series for Formula Three, the breeding ground for Formula One drivers, and are promoting their new carbon fibre chassis, sequential gearbox, flat four engined, wings and slicks championship for the first time in 2003. Fitting in perfectly with the Asian Formula Three Corporation's vision of a structured ladder to the top for Asian drivers, Formula BMW will produce fast, close racing with the region's top young drivers attempting to catch the eye of the Formula Three team managers!
Asian Porsche Carrera Cup
Last but not least the Porsche Carrera Cup Series ensures AFOS features the only International sports GT championship in the region. The cars, all built to the same specification, will be run by one team on behalf of Porsche Germany, resulting in all cars being of equal performance guaranteeing close, crowd pleasing racing.
The Asian Festival of Speed will simply feature the best Asian Motor Sport can offer in a not to be missed International Sporting Event. Many "sub events" are planned before each race, including a Miss AFOS Beauty Competition in each Country visited (in conjunction with Miss Asian F3), launch parties, bar and mall tours.
