Wuling Air ev now built in Indonesia; PH launch soon?

Wuling has just announced its official production rollout of the new Air ev at their factory in West Java, Indonesia. The Air ev is built on the same Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV) platform underpinning the Hong Guang Mini EV that is being offered in the local gray market. The Air is Wuling's third microcar following the Hong Guang and Nano electric vehicles; the distinct difference however is that this will be their global BEV model featuring a more sophisticated design, features, and better build quality.

The Air ev is poised to accelerate Wuling's expansion to global markets with Indonesia as its debut market and backed up by local production. India and Egypt have been identified as the next markets where Wuling plans to introduce the Air ev, before possibly expanding to other markets.

The Wuling Air ev measures 2972mm in length, 1506mm in width, and 1630mm in height. There will be two variants with different wheelbases. The two-seater model will have a wheelbase of 1,635 mm while the four-seater model will feature a longer 2,009 mm wheelbase making this bigger than the Mini ev we previously reported on.

It will feature a 40 PS front-mounted electric motor that is capable of going 100 km/h and will be powered by a lithium-iron-phosphate battery that is said to have a range of 300 km in the city. The Air ev will adopt the Wuling new global design language and features the company’s new silver logo. LED DRLs will be integrated into the horizontal bar that goes from one side mirror to another. 

The Air ev will headline Wuling's participation at the 2022 Indonesia International Motor Show as they celebrate their 5th anniversary in the market. Wuling began pre-booking for the Air ev in Indonesia last month with an estimated price of IDR 250,000,000 (~PHP 935,299) for the standard range model, while the long-range model is estimated at IDR 300,000,000 (~PHP 1,122,359).
