Why is PIMS 2022 pushing through despite unit supply issues?

To say that the automotive industry suffered several setbacks this 2022 is an understatement. While it may not be as bad as in 2020, the car industry is still facing several problems. From parts and chip shortages to production stoppages, as well as vehicle unit supply issues, there are still many problems that need to be overcome.

So why did the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers Philippines Inc (CAMPI) decide to go through with the 8th Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) despite supply limitations caused by parts/chip shortages?

For CAMPI president Atty. Rommel Gutierrez, the decision to continue with PIMS 2022 is to show the resiliency of the industry despite the setbacks. Moreover, he thinks that supply limitation will not hinder their plans to push through.

“The show must go on regardless of supply limitations. It’s not a reason for us not to proceed with PIMS. The industry has to show its vibrancy. Like any other industry we’ll have to show our resiliency in terms of adapting to the changes the environment has brought us,” said Gutierrez.

The CAMPI president also mentioned that it has already been 4 years since the last PIMS as the original 2020 event had to be canceled due to obvious reasons at the time. With restrictions loosening and the economy on the rise once more, the board decided now was the right time to bring back the biennial motor show.

“The supply limitations have not hindered us from pushing through with the motor show. It’s been 4 years now and the board decided we have to push through with this,” added Gutierrez.

With 13 brands set to hold launches and displays at PIMS 2022, it’s all hands on deck for participating automakers - including the 3 new members; Chery, Geely, and Hyundai.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at the venue for PHP 200 each, with the first 1,000 ticket buyers getting a 50% discount every show day. Gates will be open from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM from September 15 to September 18, 2022.
