Watch out Xpander, Hyundai unveils all-new Stargazer MPV

The competition in the compact MPV market is about to get heated once more. After releasing teaser images last month, Hyundai has officially taken the covers off the Stargazer. Set to take on the likes of the Mitsubishi Xpander, Toyota Avanza, and Suzuki Ertiga, the Hyundai Stargazer serves as the brand's newest 7-seater.

Borrowing some styling cues from its bigger sibling, the Stargazer looks like a pint-sized version of the Staria. The front fascia is dominated by an LED daytime running light that nearly covers the entire width of the vehicle. It is then complemented by a pair of cube-shaped LED headlights, along with a distinct blacked-out grille.

Moving to the rear, the Stargazer features unique H-shaped LED taillights which further signifies its space-age-inspired design. Other notable features present include an aggressive tailgate, a massive back window, and what appears to be a diffuser for the rear bumper. Combined with Hyundai's One Curve design, the automaker says the Stargazer's unmistakable looks make the vehicle appear taller and more spacious.

Hop inside the MPV and you are immediately greeted by a pair of captain seats in the second row. Not only does it make for a more premium MPV, but this setup allows for a more relaxed riding experience. Those who need to seat the third row will be happy to know that there is space in the middle of the second row to easily ingress or egress from the cabin.

Another notable feature Hyundai applied to the Stargazer is the Multifunctional Storage Space. This special design concept allows all passengers to take advantage of the many versatile storage spaces. From small tray tables, cupholders, extra pockets, as well as picnic tables, this makes the cabin of the Stargazer practical without sacrificing passenger comfort.

The front dashboard is dominated by touches of faux metal accents, as well as a free-standing 8-inch touchscreen media display. Below that is the automatic climate control along with the gear selector for the automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the instrument panel is a 4.2-inch TFT screen that replaces traditional analog gauges.

Other amenities and features present inside the Stargazer include a wireless phone charger, USB ports, a 12V power socket, leather upholstery on higher-grade variants, an armrest for the driver/front passenger, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Hyundai has yet to reveal what powers the all-new Stargazer. However, they did mention that it will be equipped with the Smartsense intelligent safety systems. This gives the MPV driver aids such as forward collision avoidance assist, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot collision avoidance assist, and rear cross-traffic alert.

With the first details and images of the Stargazer already out, we'll keep an eye on what engine will power Hyundai's MPV, as well as the other features Hyundai has yet to mention. We'll be keeping our fingers crossed that the automaker brings this to the Philippines.
