Watch: Chevrolet teases AWD Corvette Hybrid

It's no secret that General Motors is embracing electrification. From reviving the Hummer as an all-electric SUV/pick-up to developing the Ultium EV battery, as well as announcing they will launch 20 all-new EVs by 2023 and will stop selling gas-powered cars by 2035, the giant of Detroit is making big strides in order to make their electric dreams a reality.

But where does the Chevrolet Corvette fall into GM's plans for electrifying its lineup? Mark Reuss, president of General Motors, has officially announced that the Corvette will also be part of the automaker's electrified future.

Apart from the Z06, the Corvette will also be available as a hybrid and as an electric vehicle (EV). No, we're not kidding, Reuss confirmed this via his LinkedIn profile. But when can we expect the electrified Corvettes to arrive?

According to the president of GM, they will offer the Corvette Hybrid as early as next year. Meanwhile, the electric 'Vette will follow at a later date. The exact names of each vehicle are still a mystery, but Reuss did mention they will reveal their official names in the future.

Exact details and specifications are also not yet available for both Corvettes. However, Chevrolet did release a teaser video of the electrified Corvette playing in the snow. We don't see much of its design since it's camouflaged, but at least we were able to see it in action.

Unlike your typical C8 Corvette that's strictly rear-wheel drive, the hybrid benefits from all-wheel drive. The result is a Corvette that can grip uneven surfaces with ease. This could also mean the electrified sports car benefits from more than one electric motor, hence its AWD capability.

With no exact date yet as to when they will actually debut the upcoming electrified Corvette (as well as the electric Corvette), all we can do for now is wait for more details to come from either GM or Chevrolet. Fingers crossed it will deliver Porsche 919 Hybrid-like performance, without the expensive price tag.
