Toyota suspends production of classic Land Cruiser 70

It looks like Toyota’s suspension woes continue due to parts shortage and the spread of Covid-19. The latest production model to be halted is the beloved retro Land Cruiser 70. 

Toyota has announced a suspension on a couple of plants and we were able to report and monitor this previously but it looks like there is a another production line affected. Production line number two of the Yoshiwara plant was put on hold just this August 1 and this was the line manufacturing the LC 70. 

The LC 70 is the fave utilitarian variant of the Land Cruiser faithful because a lot of roles can be fulfilled by the vehicle from SUV to a pick up depending on the user’s preference. But with the vehicle having less electronic bits and having more mechanical parts, you would think that the parts shortage wouldn’t affect the product line. However, it looks like even this classic model isn't immune.

Locally, Toyota does not offer the LC 70 but we have seen some on the road already through the grey market. With the sturdiness and rugged personality of the SUV, it has received a huge following, which has benefited Toyota. But even as the suspension continues, the Japanese car maker’s August forecast still remains at approximately 700,000 units. 

It looks like this parts shortage due to the Covid-19 problem is still strong and with monkeypox coming into the picture, let us hope no more car and SUV models from Toyota and other brands will be affected.
