Toyota reveals pop culture-inspired GR86, Supra
Toyota Gazoo Racing introduces special edition GR86 and GR Supra for 2024

When you think of high-performance Toyotas, it's no surprise the 86 and Supra are the first models that come to mind. After all, both have a rich history as enthusiast cars and starring roles in pop culture.
To honor that heritage, Toyota Gazoo Racing pays tribute to the two sports coupes with special edition GR86 and GR Supra models.

Starting with the GR86, the rear-wheel-drive sports car celebrates 40 years since the popular AE86 was launched. Called the GR86 Trueno edition, the car features a two-tone black hood and side graphics, plus special badges on the front and rear bumpers. If it's not obvious yet, it honors the Sprinter Trueno made famous in the Initial D anime/manga series.

The GR86 Trueno edition also gets some performance enhancements. Toyota added Sachs dampers for better handling and Brembo brakes for better stopping power. The performance pack comes standard for the Trueno edition, but existing GR86 owners can also retrofit the upgrades to their cars.

The special edition GR Supra honors the 45th anniversary of the nameplate and its popular MkIV predecessor. Toyota calls the special paint job the Mikan Blast. While they won't admit it, the guys over at Gazoo Racing may have been inspired by Paul Walker's Supra in the original Fast and Furious movie.

Toyota added black 19-inch wheels, a black graphic package, as well as an adjustable rear wing. Unlike the GR86 however, the special edition GR Supra does not come with other performance enhancements.

Because these models are special edition versions, expect them to be very limited in numbers. Toyota will only be making 900 examples of the 45th-anniversary edition GR Supra – half in Mikan Blast, and the other 450 in Absolute Zero white color. For the GR86 Trueno edition, Toyota will just build 860.
For now the special edition models are made specifically for the US market. But who knows? Maybe if it gathers enough interest globally, then Toyota might consider bringing them to other countries just like what they did with the GR Yaris.
