Toyota recalls almost 15K Raize units due to welding issue

UPDATE: Toyota PH says no local units affected by recall.

PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) Indonesia has officially issued a recall on the Raize compact crossover, affecting 14,777 units made between November 2020 to October 2021.

Toyota Indonesia's recall was issued after improper welding standards were found on the front fender apron connections, otherwise known as the spot welds on the car's front shock tower area.

The issue was first found on the Daihatsu Rocky, which is the Toyota Raize's twin brother. PT Astra Daihatsu Motor was the first one to issue the said recall, and also affected 9,378 units of the Rocky.

According to reports, the condition causes an abnormal sound when the Raize passes over bumps or potholes. And worse, the welded part can possibly detach and potentially cause a major accident.

We made a quick visit to the Toyota Indonesia website, and we have confirmed that they have started a recall program for the Raize. There's a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) to guide Raize owners with steps to address the car's fault.

This might cause concern for Toyota Raize owners and prospective buyers in the Philippines. Raize units sold in the Philippines are made in Indonesia. However, as of the moment, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has not issued any statements yet if local units are affected by this recall.

Most likely, they are ascertaining if any units sold fall within the affected production dates given that they launched the Raize in January 2022.
