Toyota launching an EV sports car by 2026
Toyota Motor Corporation looking to expand its battery EV lineup by 2026

Over the next three years, the Toyota Motor Corporation will make a big push for all-new battery-electric vehicles (BEVs).
On its latest financial report presentation, the industry giant also announced they plan to launch ten new BEVs. That includes IMV BEVs, two luxury EVs, and for enthusiasts, a sports EV. That's right. Toyota Motor Company has an exciting battery-electric sports car coming.

But which badge will it wear? Previously, both Toyota and Lexus have released concept studies of EV sports cars. The Toyota brand has the Sports EV that's being anticipated as the successor of the mid-engined MR2. But until now, Toyota has not disclosed any details about the Sports EV concept apart from what it looks like.
On the other hand, Lexus has the Electrified Sport Concept. TMC Chairman Akio Toyoda said himself that the next-generation battery EV sports car would inherit the driving performance of the legendary LFA.

Unlike the Toyota Sports EV, Lexus has already hinted at the possibility of the production-ready Electrified Sport having all-wheel drive, presumably through a dual-motor setup. Furthermore, Lexus claims that it can accelerate from 0 – 100 km/h in the low 2-second range and have a cruising range of over 700km. In addition, instead of using lithium-ion batteries, the Lexus Electrified Sport could use solid-state batteries for more compact packaging and better performance.
New Toyota president Koji Sato has also said Lexus will lead TMC's push toward electrification. This leads us to think that based on current information, the upcoming sports car is leaning towards having the “L” badge.
Then again, there are three years left and anything can still happen. But which would you prefer? An electric MR2 successor or the LFA of the future? Let us know in the comments.
