Toyota just made a Crown Crossover with open top

Toyota seems to be liking the idea of open-top vehicles as of late.

Recently, they had the Century SUV Convertible that was made as a parade vehicle for Sumo wrestling champions in Japan. And now, they’ve tried out the same idea with another model in the prestige Toyota lineup with the Crown Convertible.

As the name suggests, the Toyota Crown Convertible is the result of a Crown Crossover taken to the body shop to chop its roof off. It has retained its four doors, but the door pillars for the windows were also taken off for a frameless configuration. The rear end, meanwhile, gets a black trim piece that replaces the rear glass.

Toyota did not say anything about the mechanical aspect of the Crown Convertible, which leads us to believe they have carried over the standard hybrid setup of the Crown Crossover. The production version of the Crown Crossover has a 2.4-liter gasoline turbo engine and two electric motors that generate a combined system output of up to 349 PS in the RS trim.

Apparently, based on the Youtube video, the Crown Convertible was also considered as a parade car for Sumo wrestling champions, but they opted instead for the Century. While the conversion was made in-house by Toyota engineers, the Crown Convertible remains a one-off build, with no plans for future production.
