Toyota Hilux Revo BEV concept is a zero-emissions pickup truck

Last week, Toyota UK announced they were working on an EV Hilux powered by hydrogen fuel cell technology. Set to be developed with funding from the UK government as well as from engineering partners, the Hilux FCEV will serve as one of the company's plans to make commercial vehicles more eco-friendly.

Over here in Southeast Asia, however, Toyota Motors Thailand Co. Ltd. (TMT) has just revealed the Hilux Revo BEV concept, and it looks promising. Revealed during TMT's 60th anniversary, the electric pickup concept is a 100% zero-emissions vehicle based on the single-cab chassis of the Hilux.

While it may look just like a sleeker version of the popular workhorse, eagle-eyed readers will immediately notice it lacks a traditional grille up front. Since there is no engine under the hood, Toyota is able to make the exterior of the pickup truck as aerodynamic as possible. There's also a charging port on the left-hand side of the vehicle which makes it possible to recharge the battery pack.

The exact specifications for the Hilux Revo BEV were not shared by the automaker. However, the company did say that it has been modified to have electric motors, as well as batteries in its chassis.

Given the Hilux's reputation as a reliable workhorse, it's no surprise though that Toyota made a prototype version that runs on batteries instead of diesel. With Toyota setting goals for carbon neutrality, we're hoping the Japanese automaker actually turns the Hilux Revo BEV into a real production car. We're keeping our fingers crossed that the concept becomes reality in the not-so-distant future.
