Toyota has made 2024 Fortuner GR Sport more powerful

Toyota Motor Philippines is having a busy 2nd half of the year rolling out all-new models. And as we've learned from our insiders, their existing models are also getting their own dose of updates which we'll get a little later in the year, or by early next year.

Over in Thailand, the Toyota Fortuner has already received a substantial update for the 2024 model year. Those include tweaks in the suspension, cabin, and safety features. But particularly for the range-topping Fortuner GR Sport, Toyota has beefed up the power output of its 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine.

The 1GD-FTV in the 2024 MY Fortuner GR Sport is now producing 224 PS and 550 Nm of torque. Quite simply, Toyota has adopted the same tune that they used in the new Hilux GR Sport that's already being sold in Australia.

For the rest of the lineup like the LTD, Q, V, and G models, power outputs are likely to remain the same. The 2.8-liter in the LTD and Q models are currently making 204 PS and 550 Nm of torque, while the smaller 2.4-liter unit in the V and G models put out 150 PS and 400 Nm.

As we've mentioned earlier, Toyota introduced some suspension tweaks that apply to the whole Fortuner lineup. Entry-level variants in Thailand get monotube dampers, while the Legender (LTD in PH) and the top-spec GR Sport get their own set of springs and shock absorbers.

Inside, Toyota added a tire pressure monitoring system and upgraded the Fortuner's 9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit – it now supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Thai-spec Fortuner also gets blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a 360-degree camera as a standard feature across the whole variant range.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that over in Thailand, the whole Fortuner range has already adopted the LTD face, along with 20-inch wheels for the Legender and GR Sport variants.

However, it remains to be seen if those will also apply when Toyota introduces the updates to the Philippine-spec Fortuner lineup. As always, we'll keep a close eye on this development so watch this space for further updates soon.
