Toyota EVP Jing Atienza takes new post as CAMPI president

For the first time in over a decade, the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) will have new leadership as the association moves forward to its vision of fostering mobility transition in the Philippines.

Toyota Motor Philippines’ executive vice president Jose Maria “Jing” Atienza has been elected as the new CAMPI president, succeeding Atty. Rommel Gutierrez, who has led the association for the past 14 years. Atienza is a seasoned executive in the automotive industry with over 35 years of experience, and has taken leadership roles in various divisions of TMP, particularly in marketing, and as president of the Toyota Makati dealer group.

Atienza will be joined by a new set of CAMPI officers for 2026, with Atty. Rhys Alexei Murillo of Nissan Philippines as vice president, Mr. Robert Carlos of Isuzu Philippines Corporation as corporate secretary, Mr. Victor Vinarao of Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation as treasurer, and Atty. Louie Soriano of Honda Cars Philippines as assistant treasurer.

In his speech, Atienza highlighted the four strategic pillars of CAMPI as he accepted the responsibility of leading the association. Those include Technology and Innovation, Vehicle and Road Safety, Industry Development, and Sustainability.

In the area of Technology and Innovation, Atienza says CAMPI will continue to promote electrification by providing diverse clean and green mobility options for customers. As the traditional automotive value chain transforms into the new mobility value chain, Atienza says CAMPI will support viable changes in transportation models to help create new value streams from mobility solutions.

CAMPI’s Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) has also been mentioned to be the association’s leading platform in showcasing mobility technologies and promoting electrification in the country.

For Vehicle and Road Safety, CAMPI is set to support and implement both international and local initiatives regarding road safety activities. Atienza mentioned that CAMPI will enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) for the implementation of road safety activities to support the Philippine Road Safety Action Plan 2023-2028.

As for Industry Development, CAMPI is advocating for programs that would help sustain automotive manufacturing in the country, as well as supporting human capital development in producing a skilled workforce in the industry. Atienza also highlighted the Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy (CARS) Program, Revitalizing the Automotive Industry for Competitiveness Enhancement (RACE) Program, and the Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy (EVIS) as programs that are instrumental in overall industry recovery and growth.

In terms of sustainability, CAMPI will continue its multi-pathway approach to carbon neutrality with a tech-neutral strategy to ensure a balanced transition towards electrification. Along with supporting policy research for carbon-neutral fuels, sustainable energy and renewable energy, the association opens itself to partnerships and industry dialogues to discover best practices and promote a circular economy in the automotive industry.

As the new president of CAMPI, Atienza is looking forward to the active support and participation of the 29 member companies of the association in accomplishing its shared objectives and helping to develop a progressive local automotive industry.
