Toyota Corolla Cross airbag recall does not include PH units

Yesterday, AutoIndustriya.com reported that Corolla Cross units sold in the country are not affected by an electronic parking brake (EPB) recall. This was confirmed to us by our contacts at Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) who shared that not one vehicle is part of the recall that's currently affecting the Australian market.

The reason why the Philippines is not included in the recall is the fact that Corolla Cross vehicles sold here do not come with an EPB. Instead, all Corolla Cross units in the country are equipped with a foot-parking brake.

However, another safety recall has been issued by Toyota – this time involving the front passenger airbag. In North America, Toyota announced that 111,000 units of the 2022 – 2023 model year Corolla Cross need to have their front passenger airbag fixed. The automaker said the front passenger airbag might not deploy as a result of a manufacturing error.

Should someone be seated at the front and an accident occurs, there's a possibility that the airbag will not activate – resulting in an increased risk of injury or death. For now, Toyota has recommended that no passenger occupy the front seat of affected Corolla Cross units. In addition, the automaker has informed customers with faulty front passenger airbags to visit a dealership and have the issue fixed free of charge.

With the crossover facing another recall, we asked our contacts again at TMP if customers of the Corolla Cross in the country should have their vehicles checked. Fortunately, they shared that the country is not included in the airbag recall currently affecting North American customers.

For owners of the Corolla Cross who were able to read about the airbag issue affecting vehicles in the US and Canada, you'll be happy to know that the country is not affected by the said recall.
