This all-new EV from Baojun looks like a Jimny fighter
Upcoming electric 4x4 from Baojun looks like it can go anywhere

If there's a vehicle that combines 4x4 capability in a (very) small package, it's the Suzuki Jimny. Thanks to its compact dimensions, generous ground clearance, and go-anywhere 4WD capability, the Jimny is for those who want to venture into the wilderness in a small yet tough 4x4 vehicle.
But with electrification continuing to make waves in the auto industry, even 4x4 vehicles need to make the switch to electrified powertrains. Baojun, a subsidiary of SAIC-GM-Wuling, may have just come up with a Jimny-sized electric 4x4.

While the automaker has yet to officially reveal its name, the company has already released several teaser images of the EV. Featuring a boxy design that's complemented by short overhangs, a tall ride height, and flared wheel arches, the high-riding EV looks the part of a proper 4x4 vehicle. It also gets some styling elements that include what looks like quad LED headlights, a sleek front grille, an integrated roof rack, and a unique pair of LED taillights.

Powertrain details about the upcoming EV are not yet available. But according to reports and rumors from the People's Republic, the off-roader will likely have a dual-motor setup to give it all-wheel drive capability. Combined system output will reportedly be at 109 PS and could be accompanied by a large 31.9 kWh battery pack that may (theoretically) give the 4x4 a range of at least 300 km.

With the Baojun 4x4 EV set to be revealed at this year's Guangzhou Auto Show in November, we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for any development regarding this boxy electric 4x4.
