The 2023 Spectre is Rolls-Royce's first all-electric coupé

Today, Rolls-Royce fulfils a 120-year-old promise by co-founder Charles Royce to deliver an electric car for clean and noiseless mobility. Ladies and gentlemen welcome the 2023 Spectre, the marque’s first fully-electric motor car.

Its design looks beyond the automotive industry and draws inspiration from haute couture, modernist sculpture, nautical design, tailoring, and even contemporary art to make an entirely original class of motor car, an ultra-luxury super coupé. On the front fascia is a split-headlight treatment on either side of the broadest stainless-steel grille ever seen on a Rolls-Royce.

It has smoother vanes and a wind-tunnel-tested Spirit of Ecstasy figurine to increase aerodynamic efficiency. The result is 0.25 Cd, which makes the Spectre the most aerodynamic Rolls-Royc, ever. Enhancing the looks further are 22 LEDs hidden behind each vane of the grille that creates a three-dimensional night signature.

The yacht inspiration is evident in the ‘waft line’ seen in the lower part of the vehicle in profile view, while its best aesthetic feature is the fastback body. Trace the roofline toward the rear and find the biggest single-body panel ever produced for a Rolls-Royce. The Spectre uses 23-inch wheels, making it the first production two-door coupé to do so in almost one hundred years.

To get inside, owners will go through Starlight Doors that use 4,796 bulbs. It is the first time Rolls-Royce has used it on a series production model. Inside is the Spectre’s Illuminated Fascia with a cluster of over 5,500 bulbs. It is on the passenger side of the dashboard.

All the electronics and the Whispers application are managed by the marque’s redesigned digital architecture of luxury named Spirit. It allows owners to interact with their car remotely, and receive live information curated by the marque’s luxury intelligence specialists. Like all Rolls-Royce models, the cabin has near-infinite customization options.

The platform of the all-electric Spectre uses a new, highly flexible all-aluminum spaceframe architecture, which also makes it possible to use an electric powertrain. It also makes the structure 30% stiffer and allowed engineers to place the floor halfway between the sill structures rather than on top or underneath them. To create a smooth floor, a channel was created to house the wiring, climate control pipes, and battery. This design lowers noise, vibration, and harshness as the battery acts as a 700-kilo sound-deadening device.

Rolls-Royce is still fine-tuning the 430-kW (or 584 PS) electric powertrain, but early figures show that it has a 520-kilometer range, 900 Nm of torque, and can go from 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. Expect a few items to change during testing and optimization, but the marque promises the launch of the 2023 Spectre to be sometime in Q4 of 2023.
