Thailand to get 2022 Mitsubishi Xpander this March, PH next?

Two months ago, Mitsubishi officially revealed the 2022 Xpander. Aside from getting an obvious facelift, the automaker also improved its interior, gave it more ground clearance, and even installed retuned struts and dampers for a more comfortable ride. Best of all, the four-speed automatic has been replaced with a CVT - which could result in a more fuel-efficient drive.

With Mitsubishi’s popular MPV already on sale in Indonesia, it’s now heading to other markets in Southeast Asia. While some of you might be thinking the Philippines is next in line, it seems Thailand will get the refreshed Xpander next.

Aside from the 2022 Avanza which is scheduled to debut in Thailand around February 2022, our friends over at headlightmag.com say Mitsubishi Thailand is gearing up for the launch of the facelifted Xpander.

While the exact specifications are not yet known, they say it will likely be similar to what Indonesia already has. That means it will have the 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated inline-four paired to a new CVT, improved ground clearance up to 220 - 225mm, and a softer-riding suspension.

It will also come with an all-new dashboard complete with new cabin amenities. It gets a new three-spoke steering wheel, a digital automatic climate control panel, and an electronic parking brake (EPB). Higher-grade variants even come with beige-colored seats, dashboard trim, and soft-padded leather for the armrests and door trim.

Other new features that are expected to be available in the Thai-spec Xpander include integrated cupholders on the second-row armrest, new Type A and Type C USB charging ports for the rear passengers, a large-capacity tray on the center console for storing phones, and a front center armrest that can store four 600ml bottles.

With Thailand set to launch it around March 2022, perhaps we can expect Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) to launch it by April 2022 or later. Here’s to hoping the Xpander that we get is as fully loaded as the ones in Indonesia and Thailand.
