Tamiya to invest PHP 2 billion in Cebu factory

Tamiya, the Japanese manufacturer of plastic model kits, RC (radio-controlled) cars, and even sailboat models, among many others, has announced plans to expand its 30-year-old factory in Cebu.

According to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Tamiya has earmarked PHP 2 billion to construct a new manufacturing line inside its plant in Cebu’s Light Industrial Park.

“We are proud that a company, known to espouse a philosophy of ‘First in Quality Around the World’, has entrusted our workers with such a huge responsibility. The quality, efficiency, and productivity of Filipino workers will always remain to be the Philippines’ best and most competitive resource,” said DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez.

Despite having companies in the United States, Germany, and Hong Kong, Tamiya manufactures its products in only two locations, Japan and the Philippines.

Tamiya expects expansion work of the new manufacturing line to finish by next year and kick off operations by September 2023.

The improved Tamiya plant will require 20% more manpower to handle 20% more manufacturing capacity. Output is expected to increase by 5%.
