Suzuki PH to bring all-new Swift with 1.2L mild-hybrid engine?
An electrified 1.2-liter three-cylinder could power the all-new Swift in PH

A couple of weeks ago, we asked an executive from Suzuki Philippines Inc (SPH) if we would be getting the all-new Swift here in the Philippines. According to our contact, plans to bring the next-generation hatchback are still under discussion. However, they did confirm to us that the hatchback will continue to be sourced from Thailand just like the current model.
Fast forward to February and looks like there has been development with regards to the possible launching of the all-new Swift here in the Philippines.
Suzuki has recently received government approval for a new passenger vehicle that's powered by an engine with an exact displacement of 1197cc which translates to 1.2 liters. Currently, Suzuki sells the third generation Swift with a 1.2-liter K12C four-cylinder engine that can be mated to either a CVT or 5-speed manual gearbox. In addition, it also has an exact displacement of 1197cc.

However, we noticed that the vehicle that recently received approval has a curb weight of around 985 kg. After cross-checking the unladen weight of the fourth-generation Swift hatchback, it appears Suzuki is already making preparations to bring it here.
Just like the Swift that was launched in Europe and Japan last year, the all-new hatchback now comes with a new 1.2-liter Z12E three-cylinder engine that's assisted by an integrated starter generator (ISG). The engine alone makes 83 PS at 5700 rpm with 108 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm while the ISG provides an extra 3.1 PS and 60 Nm of pull while under load. It can then be mated to either a 5-speed manual or a CVT.
With Suzuki Philippines already securing government approval for a new vehicle powered by a 1.2-liter engine, we're hoping that this is essentially the sign that the all-new Swift is coming to the Philippines. But for now, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed and check for more insider info soon.
